The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is seeking a Research Technician (TCP4 level – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) to join the research project:

“Safe Food Irrigated Sustainably Using Reclaimed Water: Evaluation of Emerging Contaminants and Greenhouse Gas Emissions” (Reference: PROID2025010013).

This project, within the research line AGRO-AGUA, focuses on the sustainable use of reclaimed water in agriculture, assessing environmental and food safety risks related to emerging contaminants and greenhouse gas emissions. It is funded by ACIISI.

The selected candidate will work at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Agronomy Laboratory) and the Agro-Food Laboratory of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (collaborating entity).

The contract is indefinite, subject to project funding, with an execution end date of 30 September 2027.

Main Responsibilities

The technician will contribute to the following activities:

  • Field sampling, laboratory analysis, and processing of environmental and agricultural samples
  • Coordination and management of sample collection and associated data
  • Monitoring of experimental trials in agricultural test fields
  • Support in validation and analysis of experimental results
  • Collaboration in planning and scheduling research activities

Working Conditions

  • Contract type: Part-time (20 hours/week)
  • Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 08:00–12:00
  • Workplace: ULPGC (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Agro-Food Laboratory, Cabildo de Gran Canaria)
  • Monthly salary: €760.05 (according to salary scale)
  • Proposed start date: 16 April 2026 

This position offers the opportunity to participate in applied research on sustainable agriculture, water reuse, and environmental impact assessment, combining fieldwork and laboratory analysis.

Eligibility criteria

The evaluation process (maximum 100 points) is structured as follows:

1. Research and/or Professional Experience – Maximum 55 points (55%)

Assessment includes:

  • Experience in field sampling (e.g., aquifers, environmental monitoring)
  • Scientific publications related to the project topic
  • Participation in conferences
  • Participation in research projects (related and unrelated)
  • National or international research stays
  • Experience with instrumental analytical techniques
  • Other relevant professional experience 

2. Academic Training – Maximum 20 points (20%)

Assessment includes:

  • Academic record
  • Additional training such as:
    • Master’s degree related to water cycle, soil science, irrigation systems, or greenhouse gas emissions
    • Specialized courses in related fields
  • Doctoral degree (valued as an additional merit) 

3. Other Merits – Maximum 5 points (5%)

Assessment includes:

  • IT skills
  • Sensor technologies knowledge
  • Language proficiency
  • Driving license 

4. Interview and/or Practical Test – Maximum 20 points (20%)

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to:

  • Personal interview
  • Practical test

Assessment will focus on:

  • Ability to perform assigned tasks
  • Verification of relevant skills and experience
