The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences, Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas  (FORTH/ICE-HT) is seeking applicants for one PhD candidate position in the context of the research project «Comprehensive and sustainable solution to minimize food loss and waste and promoting food security in the Mediterranean region», acronym: FUSION, GA: 2431, which is implemented under the “Mediterranean Area Programme (PRIMA)” supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme».

Job Description

To conduct research as a PhD candidate in the framework of the aforementioned project “FUSION”. The main objective of FUSION is “Optimization of plasma processes for water disinfection”.

Location: FORTH/ICE-HT, Patras, Greece

Duration: up to 6 months, with the potential of renewal or extension according to the needs of the project.

Fellowship: up to 900 € per month (graduate fellowship) depending on qualifications

Envisaged starting date: 01/05/2026

Requirements and Qualifications

The applicant should hold undergraduate BSc in Natural Sciences or Diploma in Engineering Sciences and have been registered as a PhD Candidate in Natural Sciences or Engineering. Experience with cold plasma technology is strongly favored. Candidates must have very good knowledge of the Greek and English (at least level C1) language. 

The evaluation of the candidacies will be based on the following criteria and qualifications:

Qualifications – Weight – Evaluation criteria

Experience with cold plasma treatment of water – 20 – Number of relevant publications in Journals and/or conferences (5 points/publication, max 20 points)

MSc thesis relevant to cold plasma processes – 20 – Relevance of the MSc thesis: strong relevance: 20 points, medium relevance: 15 points, weak relevance: 5 points

MSc degree grade – 20 – Grade X 2 points

Participation in research projects related to cold plasma processes for water remediation – 20 – Duration of proven participation in relevant projects (5 points/year, max. 20 points)

Interview – 20 – (a) Background in the objective of the assignment (5 points). (b) Organizational and communication skills (5 points). (c) Team-spirit and self-motivation (5 points). (d) Commitment to achieving the goals (5 points)

Overall: 100

Selection Procedure

Applications that are received on time will be evaluated by a scientific committee using the criteria mentioned above. The outcome of the selection will be announced on the website of FORTH/ICE-HT as well as on the website of “DIAVGEIA”. In case of titles and qualifications awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions, the provisions of the Law 55/2023 (article 36) and 4957/2022 (article 304) are implemented.
