Position Description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is recruiting for an Assistant Capital Projects Coordinator at the Cedar Falls location, near North Bend, WA. This position will help develop, plan and lead Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) programs for facility assets within the municipal watersheds. This work involves researching, analyzing, and developing solutions to meet the facility needs of SPU employees and the visiting public.  The successful candidate will assist the team with providing timely and professional services related to the management of SPU workforce, operational, historical, and public-facing facilities. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, customer service focused and able to manage many projects simultaneously.

Job Responsibilities

  • Attends planning meetings to determine objectives, program plans and project scope.
  • Assists in developing and negotiating specifications and schedules for design and construction of facilities projects 
  • Monitors and coordinates activities of contractors, consultants, and end users during construc­tion.
  • Researches contracts, project designs and construction of projects.
  • Assists in developing contract and project specifications, selecting consultants and contractors, negotiating contracts for design and construction of projects, and administering contract oversight of watershed facilities and infrastructure projects, including preparing and processing change orders, verifying invoices, tracking expenditures, and handling project closeout.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, advertisements, and official docu­ments regarding project status, progress, payments, or to advertise consulting bids.

Qualifications

Experience: Requires a minimum of two years project or construction management or related experienceAND

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administrat­ion, Urban Planning or related field (or a combination of educa­tion and/or training and/or experience which provide an equivalent back­ground required to perform the work of the class).*If no degree, two (2) additional years of relevant experience is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with construction of capital improvement projects (CIP), maintenance work, and Project Management. 
  • Ability to use financial systems, such as PeopleSoft, for creating and processing purchase orders and reconciling invoices.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and SharePoint.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting projects involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities quickly.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

The full salary range for this position is $52.04 – $60.59 hourly.

Workplace Environment/ExpectationThis position requires the selected candidate to work onsite at the Watershed Headquarters at Cedar Falls full time (40 hours per week).
