Duties and responsibilities

  • Professional research and development activities, including conducting comprehensive studies of wetlands and flowing water bodies.
  • International-level research output over a five-year period equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses.
  • Teaching at a contemporary methodological and educational-technology level, and supervising students at all levels of higher education.
  • Continuous professional development in skills required for research, as well as in teaching and supervision competencies.
  • Promotion and popularization of one’s field of expertise.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience

  • Ability to organise teaching and teach at all levels of higher education.
  • Previous effective student supervision at least at the first and second level of higher education.
  • Ability to implement a research theme and academic co-work. Preferably experience with interdisciplinary environmental research.
  • Internationally recognised professional research, the volume of which is equivalent to that of at least two doctoral theses. In the last five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of one doctoral thesis.
  • Success in performing research contracts in integrated wetland ecology in the last five years.
  • Experience and abilities to carry out fieldwork on different groups of terrestrial and wetland biota, in order to enable implementation of integrated conservation projects.
  • Experience with the implementation and popularization of academic knowledge.

Required language skills
Very good command of English, both spoken and written. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.
