Offer Description
Title of the project: “Analysis and statistical modelling of coastal extreme events” – Techniques of Extreme Value Analysis (EVA) will be developed within this research work, with the aim of identifying statistical relations between magnitude and frequency of the extremes. These techniques will be applied to observational and modelled data on a set of representative areas selected within the project, and will be able to capture local trends of the extremes in view of climate changes. At the interface between land and sea, our coasts are subject to water-related hazard, originating from a wide range of phenomena, including sea level rise, storm surges, seiches, tides, gravity waves, precipitations, river discharge. Consequently, coastal hazard is often related to the occurrence of compound events, which here will be described in terms of multivariate non-stationary joint distributions, by means of the copula methodology.
