DESCRIPTION (topic, expectations, comments):
Scope of responsibilities for the position:
- Conducting research in hydrology and water management, with a focus on coupled surface-groundwater modeling, and examining how climate change and human interventions in catchments (such as forest restoration, surface water management measures) affect surface-groundwater hydrological connectivity, groundwater drought development and recovery.
- Publishing research findings in high-impact JCR journals.
- Applying for and managing externally funded research projects.
- Presenting results at international conferences and engaging in science outreach.
- Participation in teaching activities and supervision of PhD students, according to the Institute’s needs.
Requirements for candidates:
- Proven experience in advanced hydrological modeling (e.g., conceptual or physically based spatially distributed models), particularly with SWAT+, SWAT-MODFLOW and SWAT+gwflow
- Proven experience in modelling natural and human-induced drought (streamflow and groundwater drought).
- Proficiency in programming (R, Python, or MATLAB) and GIS tools.
- Experience in climate scenarios and time series analysis for groundwater modelling.
- Fluent command of English for scientific writing and international collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively in an international research team.
Requirements for candidates (regarding completed higher education and academic degree/title):
A doctoral degree (PhD) in Earth sciences or a related field (e.g., environmental engineering, hydrology) is required.

Terms of employment:
- Full-time employment contract;
- Planned start date: Q2 2026;
- Base salary: approximately PLN 7,000.00–7,200.00 gross per month;
- Place of work: Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw;
