Position Summary

INRS is a university-level research and graduate training establishment. Ranked first in Canada for its research intensity (grant total per professor), INRS brings together 170 professors and about 800 students and postdoctoral fellows in four centres located in Quebec City, Montreal, Varennes, and Laval.

INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre (ETE) is situated in the heart of Quebec City, with major research facilities of the Laboratory for Scientific and Technological Innovation in Environment (LISTE) located in the Quebec Metro High-Tech Park. The Centre brings together a total of 36 faculty members, 100 research and research support staff, 33 administrative employees, and 220 graduate students. Total operating revenues, including institutional and external revenues, amount to approximately $18 million per year.

The Centre invites applications for a non tenure-track professor position in water sciences, specializing in hydrology and hydraulics, with a view to ensuring scientific and educational continuity in a field of strategic importance to Quebec society. This position is in the field of hydroclimatology and will promote interdisciplinarity with geomatics, remote sensing, ecotoxicology, and hydrogeology.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop a research program focused on distributed hydrology, applied hydraulics, and integrated watershed management, consolidating the Center’s hydrology and hydraulics focus;
  • Collaborate with existing professors at the Centre Eau Terre Environnement whose specialties include geomatics, remote sensing, ecohydraulics, ecotoxicology, and hydrogeology;
  • Participate in teaching in hydrology and hydraulics and develop new courses on sensitivity analysis and uncertainty management;
  • Supervise master’s and doctoral students, as well as postdoctoral students;
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships with ministries, organizations, and universities;
  • Conduct activities within the center’s existing infrastructure, such as the environmental hydraulics laboratory and the multidisciplinary computed tomography laboratory.

Requirements

Education 

  • PhD in water sciences (postdoctoral degree an asset).

Experience

  • Have an excellent record of research accomplishments;
  • Teaching and mentoring experience with students is an asset;
  • Expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modeling;
  • Experience in collaborative research with partners.

Standard Requirements

  • Scientific production demonstrating autonomy and originality;
  • Ability to conduct applied research with industrial partners, or public and parapublic organizations.

The working language is French. Advanced knowledge of English is essential. Candidates with limited knowledge of French are strongly encouraged to apply. The necessary resources will be made available to facilitate the successful candidate’s learning of French.

Additionnal Information

The salary of a professor at the assistant academic rank can range from $100,863 to $131,042 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is covered by the collective agreement of the Syndicat des professeur.e.s de l’INRS.

INRS members have priority access to daycare centers La Butte à Moineaux located near the INRS campus in downtown Quebec City and Les petits papillons, located across from the Laboratory for Scientific and Technological Innovation in Environment.
