About the role
The Team Leader Wastewater Treatment plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless and efficient operations of lagoon-based wastewater treatment systems while leading, supporting and mentoring the lagoon wastewater treatment team.
Our lagoon-based wastewater treatment plants are spread throughout the north east region. This is an exciting opportunity to get out and about in the beautiful north east region and gain exposure across our 18 lagoon-based wastewater treatment plants. You will also have access to a diverse range of learning opportunities, allowing you to expand your knowledge and skills in the field of wastewater treatment.
The role is currently primarily based in Wangaratta however due to the spread of our lagoon-based wastewater treatment plants, the base location for this role is open to negotiation.
This role is a full-time ongoing opportunity – Monday to Friday, general hours of work between 7am and 4:30pm with flexible work options available such as a 9-day fortnight.
Once deemed competent, you will be required to participate in a seven-day on call roster every 4 weeks which operates from a Tuesday until the following Tuesday. This includes an on-call allowance of over $500 (per week of on-call) plus any applicable overtime hours and rates.
Key Responsibilities
- Wastewater treatment monitoring & maintenance: Oversee and ensure consistent monitoring, maintenance, and optimisation of lagoon-based wastewater systems.
- Address potential risks and implement preventive measures.
- Safety & Training: Uphold and enforce strict safety standards.
- Ensure team members are well-trained and in alignment with OHS standards.
- Team Management: Supervise the lagoon wastewater treatment team’s daily tasks, ensuring efficient operations.
- Project Management: Implement lagoon-based wastewater treatment projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgetary guidelines.
- Emergency Response: Lead the coordination for timely responses to disruptions or emergencies.
- Oversee and participate in a 7-day rotating on-call roster.
- Resource Management: Efficiently manage resources including equipment, tools, and materials required for treatment operations, ensuring minimal wastage and optimal usage.
- Asset & Infrastructure Management: Operation and fault response including inlet works, aeration assets, storages and discharge facilities, and desludging of alum sludge lagoons as required.

Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience leading with a safety-first mindset and the ability to build and coordinate high-performing teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment systems and processes.
- Certificate III in water or wastewater treatment (or equivalent), or experience in the water industry and demonstrated progress towards achieving these qualifications.
- Current driver’s licence (required).
- Medium rigid truck license, high-risk work licenses and/or competencies (desired but willingness to obtain is essential).

Salary Information
- An attractive salary range of $90,574 to $100,709 plus 12% superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
- This role is eligible for our industry and wastewater allowances which add over $2,600 to your remuneration per year!
- In this role you will participate in an on-call availability roster for 7 days approximately every 4 weeks. This includes an on-call allowance of over $500 (per week of on-call) plus any applicable overtime hours and rates.
Position Information
- This is a full time, ongoing position.
- Currently based in Wangaratta. Due to the spread of our treatment plants, the base location for this role is negotiable.
- Successful applicants will be required to undertake pre-employment checks including a police check and/or pre-employment medical and functional testing where applicable.
