The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead our next chapter.
CIWEM is a leading professional membership body, supporting over 10,000 members working across government, business, academia and charities. We are committed to building a global water and environmental community dedicated to public benefit and in 2019 we declared a climate and biodiversity emergency, pledging to support our members in tackling the biggest environmental challenges of our time.

About the Role
As CEO, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of CIWEM
- Be accountable for financial and operational performance
- Deliver our growth strategy and business plan
- Strengthen governance alongside the Chair and Board of Trustees
- Raise CIWEM’s national and international profile
- Build strong relationships with members, partners, government and industry
- Lead and inspire a talented Senior Management Team
You will be the public face of CIWEM a credible, visible leader across the water and environmental sectors.

Leadership & Strategy
- A strong track record of setting strategy and delivering measurable impact
- Experience leading a membership body, professional institution, charity or similar organisation
- The ability to inspire a diverse professional community
Commercial & Financial Acumen
- Experience ensuring financial sustainability and growth in a not-for-profit context
- Proven success in developing income streams and managing risk
- Strong governance experience
People & Culture Leadership
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly
- A collaborative, empowering leadership style
- Commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability
Influence & Communication
- A compelling communicator at senior levels
- Experience engaging with government, regulators, industry and academia
