Your Opportunity
Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. As part of our commitment to developing the next generation of professionals, Stantec is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team for the May through December 2026 (4-month or 8-month) period as a Surface Water Resources Co-op. This position offers meaningful career-related opportunities for students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Biology, and related fields. Through involvement in real-world environmental and water resources projects, you will gain practical experience and develop key technical skills that are essential for a successful career in water management, environmental consulting, and sustainable development.
The position will help the student build a strong foundation in the practical applications of their academic studies and offer valuable preparation for future careers or graduate studies. The student will report directly to the Team Lead for the Water Resources team, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Additional support, mentorship and guidance will be provided by a team of civil and environmental engineers based in Whitehorse.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support preparation in plans, designs, calculations, analyses in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings and other specifications
- Assists in developing budgets, schedules and reports
- Conducts preliminary studies required to formulate, determine and evaluate design criteria for engineering work
- Participate in field programs hydrometric monitoring, construction support, and site assessments, including data collection, sampling and instrumentation.
- Conduct data management and analysis tasks related to collected field data
- Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering environment
- Write technical memorandums and contribute to report writing
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a vibrant, inclusive and enthusiastic workplace culture
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering Degree program (Environmental or Civil Engineering preferred) or Environmental Science / Earth Science / Biology Degree program with relevant coursework. – Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical writing and field documentation
- Familiarity with MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent attention to detail, with accuracy in field notes, data entry and calculations.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated and adaptable with a strong desire to learn while working in a team environment.
- Willingness to work outdoors in remote northern conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
- Valid safety training certificates relevant to field work (first aid, auxiliary vehicles, boating, etc.) are an asset. – Experience working directly with environmental monitoring or field investigation programs is an asset.
- Familiarity with GIS based software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and cloud data storage/processing is an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
