As the Leader, Stormwater Network, you will provide strategic and technical leadership for the design and delivery of The City of Calgary’s stormwater conveyance system. You will oversee a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technical professionals, ensuring the successful delivery of linear capital infrastructure projects, including stormwater, storm ponds, wetlands, and flood-mitigation infrastructure. Primary duties include:

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff by overseeing recruitment, onboarding and training; setting clear performance expectations; assigning and reviewing technical work; providing direction and ensuring infrastructure meets service level objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, innovation and collaboration amongst the team and with internal/external business partners.
  • Provide engineering expertise and technical oversight for linear capital projects, including underground pipelines, tunnels, mains, drainage systems, storm ponds, wetlands, and related infrastructure.
  • Guide projects from concept development and feasibility, including consultant selection, planning, design, approvals, estimating, tendering, contract administration, construction management, inspection, and commissioning of stormwater capital construction projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and meet standards for performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop strategic long-term planning, allocate resources, and develop business processes in support of linear capital project delivery programs.
  • Provide strategic input to the development of multi-year capital budgets and contribute to preparation of the annual operating budget for the section/division.
  • Act as a technical authority for stormwater infrastructure within the corporation. Collaborate with internal and external partners, developers, regulators, engineering consultants and contractors to ensure that stormwater linear infrastructure functions safely, reliably, efficiently, and sustainably.

Qualifications 

  • A degree in Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details
  • A degree in Civil or Environmental Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in stormwater or municipal linear infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading capital infrastructure programs or major projects.
  • Strong knowledge of stormwater hydraulics, pipeline systems, and asset management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with formal leadership and supervisory duties of staff will be considered an asset. 
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and experience with project tracking software will be considered assets. 
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Success in this role requires excellent communication and relationship management skills, people leadership and change management, business and political acumen, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across City departments and with internal and external partners.
  • You have highly developed strategic thinking, analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills, along with strong project management abilities and the ability to make decisions in a complex, high-profile environment.

Working Conditions: This position works in an office environment with some construction site visits.
