The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland. Our mission is to manage water resources responsibly and empower councils to support and grow Queensland communities. With over 800 dedicated professionals across Brisbane and regional offices, we work to ensure that Queensland’s communities, businesses, and water resources thrive.

Reporting to the Director-General and operating as a member of the Departmental Leadership Team, you will lead the Water Infrastructure Planning and Partnerships division. Your focus will be on strategy, investment and system leadership, rather than technical detail.

You will:

  • Shape Queensland’s water infrastructure strategy with a clear focus on economic development and growth
  • Lead major investment and prioritisation decisions that enable industry, housing and regional development
  • Represent the state in discussions with senior stakeholders
  • Ensure Queensland has a strong voice at intergovernmental and sector forums
  • Provide high level advice to Ministers and central agencies on complex, high impact issues.

While maintaining oversight of delivery and operations, this role clearly operates at the strategic level. A key part of your leadership will be lifting capability across the division, helping teams better understand how government makes decisions and how to influence outcomes effectively.

About you:

  • Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation.
  • This role is a strategic leadership position, suiting someone with demonstrated ability to think ‘big picture’ and communicate complex matters in a way that all Queenslanders can understand.
  • This role requires strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills. You will have demonstrated experience in leading change across a large team. Experience within the water sector is not necessary, with the emphasis being on leadership, strategy and stakeholder engagement
