Job Purpose
As a Civil/Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key part of our multidisciplinary team of technical specialists, delivering projects in close partnership with clients and contractors. You will form part of the technical design team undertaking innovative and sustainable solutions to address conveyance of waste and sewage disposal across our client’s water networks for Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids, design of public and private infrastructure, design of hydraulic systems and other civil engineering projects.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Developing engineering solutions with your direct line manager/team
- Producing of design engineering calculations, specifications, bill of quantities, datasheets, drawings and reports
- Supporting continuous improvement of procedures and processes to drive efficiency and innovation, contributing to the application of our digital engineering initiatives
- Engaging regularly with the Client and stakeholders to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships
- Working collaboratively across disciplines to ensure the efficient delivery of projects within teams’ portfolio
- Assist with Project Managing and ensure project documentation control.
- Providing guidance and supporting the development of less experienced staff
Candidate Specification:
We are seeking a motivated Engineer with the following attributes:
- Civil or Mechanical Engineering background.
- Minimum 12+ years relevant working as a Civil/ Mechanical Engineer, with at least 5 years of that being in a senior role managing projects. Work experience in Africa is essential.
- Professionally registered with the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or an equivalent recognized professional body.
- Experience in field work including site surveys and investigations, surface and ground water sampling, drilling, pumping tests and other field works.
- Experience in the extractive industries such as mining and oil and gas would be beneficial but not a prerequisite.
- Demonstrable experience in business development, including cultivating client relationships, sourcing new opportunities, and successful development of technical and financial proposals.
- Must be able to manage projects or components of projects, take responsibility for resource allocation, liaise with clients, specialists and authorities, manage quality assurance/client feedback and ensure he/she meets budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets, while exceeding client expectations.
- Interested in clean / potable water pipeline design, non-Newtonian applications such as slurries and pumping/booster stations and/or wastewater network and associated infrastructure design.
- A working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment process design, geotechnical engineering, structural design and hydraulics.
- Strong understanding of designers’ responsibilities under construction design, health and safety, and regulatory frameworks, with the ability to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Proactive approach, with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios
- Highly developed collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts logically and effectively in oral and written formats to multidisciplinary teams and external clients.
- Evident drive to pursue continuous professional development and maintain a strong understanding of current and emerging technical trends and solutions
Desirable:
- Able to travel to other offices and sites, as required
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Have a valid passport and be willing to travel into Africa with notion to be flexible to travel overseas (up to six weeks per trip) would be advantageous to help support our international workload
- Have demonstrable experience in the mining or infrastructural sector
- Have experience with specialist software such as CAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, GoldSim etc and or other water modelling software
- Fluent written and verbal English.
- Competent with MS Office suite of programs.
- Ability to work on own initiative on technical and business matters and manage their own time.
