- Learn and apply water quality sampling and monitoring for stormwater and surface water.
- Learn and apply calibration, maintenance, and operation of monitoring equipment applied in the environmental science field of study.
- Learn and apply safe field work practices and policies.
- Basic data compiling and analysis.
- Drive to monitoring locations for the purpose of sample collection and field measurements.
- Be on ‘Standby’ for some weekends to support emergency spill response, guided by other technicians.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a diploma or degree in Environmental/Water Science, Technology, or a related field.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- A valid class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits and no
- Success in this position requires strong attention to detail and a focus on producing high quality results.
- This position must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions while following safe work practices and policies; can work both independently and in a team; and be innovative in troubleshooting issues in the field.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2026.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
- If invited to an interview, you will be asked to provide an unofficial transcript or an enrollment verification letter (indicating the program and year you are currently completing).
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
