About the team
The Technical Services Department at WaterAid Bangladesh serves as the central hub for advancing technical excellence, strategic communication, and evidence-based research across the organisation’s WASH initiatives. Comprising three key portfolios: Technical, Communications, and Research, the department drives innovation, ensures quality assurance, and fosters learning to support impactful and inclusive programme delivery.

The Technical unit within this department plays a critical role in developing climate-resilient solutions, amplifying WaterAid’s voice and visibility, and generating knowledge to influence policy and practice. It is expected that the unit will collaboratively work across teams and with external partners to achieve WaterAid’s mission of transforming lives through clean water, decent toilet, and good hygiene.

About the role
The primary purpose of the Young Professional (YP) position is to support innovative design development, capacity building and youth engagement tasks, including documentation, facilitating inter-departmental coordination, and contributing to ongoing and future project activities through technical efforts. The position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of technical activities while supporting organisational goals. S/he is expected to carry out activities with high degree of consistency, collaboration and critical thinking to contribute to WaterAid’s mission of transforming lives by making safe water, sanitation, and hygiene accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Young Professional (YP) is a programme through which WaterAid provides adequate support and opportunity to the Bangladeshi young and talented aspirants having good academic background. Therefore, YPs can groom themselves up in the organisational environment, obtain relevant experience, and prepare themselves to contribute professionally to any organisational set-up.

In this role, you will:    

  • Develop designs incorporating green technologies for ensuring environmental safety and sustainability of WASH infrastructures.
  • Design and estimate climate resilient and universally accessible technologies to support programme implementation.
  • Conduct field visit to provide technical assistance to different projects/programmes as and when needed.
  • Organise trainings/ workshops and other capacity building activities.
  • Support in promoting WASH through innovative technologies/ approaches.
  • Assist in the development of training module and communication materials for different capacity building initiatives.
  • Assist in development/ revision of organisational guideline and policies.
  • Development of knowledge pieces and its publications at appropriate media.
  • Documentation, reporting, and presentation as and when required.

These responsibilities will be reviewed with the line manager from time to time.

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

Education: Fresh graduates with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), preferably in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Urban Planning, from any recognized and reputed university in Bangladesh or abroad.

Desired attributes:

  • Strong understanding of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues in both national and global contexts
  • Standard written and verbal communication skills in both Bangla and English
  • Admirable leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency with hands-on experience in software such as AutoCAD, GIS, SketchUp, etc.
  • High level of proactiveness, creativity, and a positive attitude
  • Strong ability to plan and prioritize tasks, uphold integrity, and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel extensively to different parts of the country.
