Description

The Jeremy Brooks Memorial Internship is awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a career in river conservation or related field. The internship is a merit-based Trout Unlimited program that provides an ambitious, conservation-focused fly-angler with valuable learning opportunities in the field of coldwater conservation.

The Jeremy Brooks Memorial Internship was established in 2019 in honor of Jeremy Brooks, a passionate fly angler and conservationist whose life was cut tragically short while pursuing his love for fly fishing. The internship is made possible by funds generously donated through the Jeremy Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Who can apply: Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, who display a passion for fly-fishing, a strong conservation ethic, and a desire to give back to their community.

Where is it based: In a Trout Unlimited field office, the specific location to be determined based on field needs and candidate preference.

How to apply: Interested applicants should electronically submit a resume and an essay, not more than two pages, that discusses:

  1. Your passion for conservation, including a desire to be in the field/on the water
  2. Your passion for fly-fishing and the outdoors
  3. Your availability and desired location

About Jeremy Brooks: Jeremy was a passionate fly angler en route to his dream job as a fly-fishing guide on the Ponoi River in Russia when he died in a plane crash. From New Mexico, Jeremy graduated from Colorado College in 2018 with a degree in environmental science and a minor in philosophy. Jeremy started fly fishing at the age of seven and as a young adult described himself as a ‘tactical angler with ethical standards.’ Jeremy was a loving son and brother who touched the lives of many in his 22 years with his intelligence, spirituality, and kindness.
