About the role

There is an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to support the portfolio of research projects implemented by the Hydrology and Water Resources research group led by Professor Wouter Buytaert in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  The projects include several national and international collaborations with academic institutions, research institutes, non-governmental organisations, and local stakeholders.

The post-holder will have responsibility for organising and managing the various projects’ activities, working closely with the Principal Investigators and team members. They will also need to work closely with work package leads and international partners to ensure clear communication and alignment of research outputs to funder and stakeholder needs.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of projects’ budgets, including resource planning and review, liaising with project partners to ensure timely financial and performance reporting. They will also lead on the coordination of events and meetings.

The post-holder will monitor the progress of the teams and their research, providing guidance as to requirements from the funders and ensuring that the outcomes are delivered on time and to the required standard. The post-holder will be a key contact with the funding agencies, leading on grant reporting both internally and externally.

This is a full-time fixed term contract until 31st March 2028 in the first instance.

What you would be doing

  • You will coordinate projects from start to finish, acting as the main point of contact, monitoring progress, and ensuring objectives are met.
  • Managing budgets and resources is a key responsibility including day-to-day finances, reporting, procurement, and supporting staffing needs.
  • You will also support funding and reporting, identifying new opportunities, assisting with grant applications, and maintaining accurate records of outputs.
  • Leading communications and engagement is another key task, including building strong relationships with partners, organising events, and creating content for project webpages and materials.
  • You will also provide team support, assisting with HR processes, promoting collaboration, and ensuring effective information-sharing across the group.

What we are looking for

  • You will be educated to a minimum of A-level (or equivalent) including a STEM subject, and ideally a degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Solid project or programme management experience is essential, together with experience of coordinating internal and external activities to meet deadlines.
  • You will have strong financial and budgetary management skills, along with excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and experience with website design and delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, with the confidence to present to a range of audiences.
  • You will also have a collaborative approach and strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet challenging deadlines.
