Job description
- Background of the recruitment and description of the projectCurrently, ICHARM has one senior research specialist responsible for the analysis of satellite data and sediment transport modeling; however, this individual’s term of appointment will expire at the end of March 2026. If a suitable successor cannot be secured, the following issues are expected to arise, and therefore a replacement position is being recruited:
There will be a shortage of experts with advanced knowledge of simulation models related to riverbank and riverbed variation phenomena based on sediment hydraulics, which are essential components of technical development for river channel management in Japan, as well as models addressing channel responses and controls to sediment transport, particularly including channel migration in overseas contexts.
There will be an insufficient number of personnel capable of providing instruction on sediment and hydraulic phenomena to master’s course students and to other students and trainees accepted from overseas.
There will be a shortage of specialists in the field of sediment-related flood disasters who can participate in international projects and information network activities related to water-related disaster risk reduction in which ICHARM is involved.https://www.pwri.go.jp/jpn/employ/saiyou/index.html#07 - Work content and job description(1)Evaluating flood risks caused by stream diversion, through field surveys and detailed satellite observations, and improvement the sediment transport models, in the main research project “Development of Hazard Assessment Technologies for Sediment, Driftwood and Flood Inundation in Small and Medium Rivers Downstream Basins”.
(2)Providing training, lectures, and supervisions in specialized fields for overseas trainees and students in ICHARM.
(3)Participating in international projects and information network activities for water-related disaster risk reduction. Supporting the formation and implementation of projects related to specialized fields.
