Research Fellow Applications (ESG Project)

Earth System Governance

Research fellows are scholars who have applied to be formally connected to the ESG Project. They receive a dedicated profile on our website and are included in the ESG Project member network. Research Fellows are expected to contribute to network activities by proactively seeking opportunities to collaborate with other members, e.g. through Taskforces, Working Groups and other initiatives.

Please note that these are voluntary, unpaid titles.

Research Fellow requirements

  • Hold a Master’s degree in a field relevant to Earth System Governance
  • Be actively engaged in academic research (e.g. as a PhD student, postdoctoral researcher, academic researcher, senior scientist, or university professor at the Assistant, Associate, or Full level)
  • Have at least one peer-reviewed publication related to Earth System Governance (for early-career researchers, conference papers or other peer-reviewed publications will also be considered)

Senior Research Fellow requirements

  • Hold a PhD in a field relevant to Earth System Governance
  • Be actively engaged in academic research with at least five years of post-PhD experience (e.g., as a postdoctoral researcher, senior scientist, or university professor at the Assistant, Associate, or Full level)
  • Have at least 12 peer-reviewed publications related to Earth System Governance

Application process

Your application should include:

  • A CV, including a list of publications.
  • A motivation letter (max 1 page) that specifies which research lenses and contextual conditions of the ESG Project’s Science and Implementation Plan your research is most closely associated with.

The ESG Project’s International Project Office evaluates all applications and informs the applicants of the outcome.
