Job Description:
Reporting to the Environment Manager, our Water Specialist is responsible in developing, implementing and supporting water-related strategy to achieve our vision of water stewards, freshwater reductions and efficient water usage. The position will be accountable for water governance, assurance, and compliance to achieve freshwater reductions and efficient water use across Steelmaking Coal operations.
You’ll take the lead in shaping sustainable water practices that make a real difference. In this role, you’ll drive water governance, assurance, and compliance to reduce freshwater use and improve efficiency across Steelmaking Coal operations. Beyond the business impact, you’ll champion Water Stewardship delivering initiatives that support local communities through water supply projects, operational strategies, and infrastructure improvements. Key requirements:
- Develop and implement Water Policy, Water Management Standard, and associated guidelines to ensure efficient water use.
- Lead the development and application of Water Operations Guidelines across all sites for effective water quality management.
- Ensure compliance with Technical Standards and government legislative requirements
- Support site environmental managers in implementing water strategy and compliance with standards.
- Set water targets for each site in line with Anglo Sustainable Development Strategy.
- Liaise with teams to integrate water strategy across all operational lifecycle stages.
- Advise on regulatory changes related to water resource planning, trading, entitlements, accounting, and quality management.
- Maintain an information management system for water-related data and reporting.
- Coordinate Surface Water and Groundwater Monitoring Programs with site stakeholders.
- Drive improved use of Mine Affected Water, including opportunities for security and blending.
- Provide technical expertise and oversight for major capital projects and life-of-asset planning.
- Lead Steelmaking Coal Water Steering Committee meetings between Brisbane Corporate Office and operations.
- Collaborate on best practice opportunities in water management and sustainability.
- Implement and manage Water Quality Automation & Reporting (WAF+).
- Represent Steelmaking Coal on QRC and MCA Water Forums and maintain partnerships with external organisations (SMI, Fitzroy Partnership, ACARP).
- Drive alignment and implementation of Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Water Protocols across sites.
- Produce accurate reports and plans, including statutory and internal requirements.
- Identify water-related risks and opportunities, implementing continual improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in Tertiary Qualifications in Surface Water Engineering or Water Specialist discipline.
- Extensive experience in environmental and/or sustainable development within resources industry with preference for coal mining experience, which will be highly regarded.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills will ensure your success in this role
