The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research is currently seeking Postgraduate Research Associate (project employment)

Extent of employment: 20 hours per week (with a possibility of extension up to 40 hours per week)
Duration of employment: as of now, limited to 31st of January 2028                    
Workplace: 1200 Vienna, Am Brigittenauer Sporn 3
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least (for 20 h/week): € 1.888,10 
(payable 14 times per year) 

To support a multi-year project aimed at highlighting the activities of BOKU University in the context of the EU Missions “Soil Deal for Europe” and “Restore our Ocean and Waters,” we are seeking a postgraduate research associate (20 hours per week) to join our interdisciplinary project team. The goal of the project is to work on transformative solutions for the sustainable use, protection, and revitalization of soils and waters in 1 collaboration with society. The advertised Prae-Doc position focuses on the topics of water, pedagogy and citizen science.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in the development, implementation, and operation of exhibitions and guided tours for schoolchildren and the general public (e.g., Public Lab)
  • Internal and external visibility for BOKU (e.g., working with different CMS systems such as TYPO3 or Joomla) for projects, initiatives, and content related to the EU missions “Soil” and
    “Waters”
  • Coordination and organization of events (e .g., workshops, excursions, community engagement) on mission-related topics
  • Reporting on project activities for the university leadership and funding agencies
  • Social media activities on mission-related topics
  • Coordination and execution of project-internal support services for BOKU partners
  • Active participation in project meetings

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geography, Biology or other equivalent university degree
  • Language skills : Excellent German and English skills both spoken and written
  • Successfully completed degree in natural sciences, preferably with a clear focus on water science-related content
  • Experience with or basic knowledge of pedagogy, didactics, citizen science
  • Basic knowledge of using Facebook, Linkedln , and CMS systems
  • Independent and reliable work ethic
  • Strong teamwork skills

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Experience in conducting research projects is an advantage
  • Experience in water sciences
  • Experience or interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Eperience participating in a citizen science project
  • Experience in social media communication
  • Open and communicative demeanor
  • Experience in customer support
