Job description
We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join the international REACTION project, which investigates freshwater ecosystems in forested regions across four European countries: Spain, Slovakia, Sweden, and Finland. This is part of ongoing research on forest and peatland biodiversity and restoration. As a Research Assistant, you will contribute to case studies focusing on key environmental parameters, including surface temperature, soil moisture, water table levels and total suspended matter. You will work with diverse remote sensing datasets such as Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite data, multispectral imagery, and LiDAR. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with leading international partners in the REACTION project. The position may also involve fieldwork and broader project support activities. Our expectations of the applicant
A solid background in remote sensing
Strong computer and software skills, including proficiency in R, Python, and ArcGIS
Knowledge of forest and peatland biodiversity
Good command of written and spoken English
The ideal candidate is proactive, committed, and efficient. You should be in the final stages of your master’s studies or have already completed a master’s degree. The position may also provide opportunities to develop an M.Sc thesis topic during the internship. Relevant fields of study include e.g., forestry, environmental science, physical geography, environmental technology and ecology.

- Trial period: The trial period is half the duration of the employment contract, but not exceeding six (6) months.
- Remuneration information: The position is at complexity level 1 in Luke’s salary system and the position specific salary is EUR 2191,38 per month. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid (max. 50% of the position specific salary). A new employee’s personal performance component depends on competence and experience and generally falls in the range of 15-20 %. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
