Objective and Purpose of the Assignment
The consultant will provide professional editing support to the Pacific and Southeast Asia Team (SEAP)
of the Water and Urban Development Sector Office to ensure that the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
documents, including Report and Recommendation of the President (RRPs), TA reports, project and TA
completion reports, and knowledge products, meet ADB’s editorial standards and are clear, concise, and
suitable for target audiences.
Scope of Work
Under the guidance of ADB staff, the consultant will write and edit ADB documents as requested. The
consultant will ensure that documents clearly present the development issues and ADB’s strategy to
address them, using concise and coherent narratives. Where appropriate, technical language will be
simplified, and visual elements such as infographics will be incorporated to improve clarity. The scope
of reports and publications will be agreed upon at mobilization. The consultant will also support SEAP
in preparing other knowledge products that draw on SEAP staff expertise and existing research.
Detailed Tasks and/or Expected Output
The consultant will:
(i) Edit and proofread draft documents, including RRPs, TA reports, project and TA completion reports,
and knowledge products, and other ad hoc requirements for grammar, style, clarity, and consistency.
(ii) Ensure compliance with ADB’s Handbook of Style and Usage, branding guidelines, and publication
standards.
(iii) Check for logical flow, readability, and accuracy of language.
(iv) Provide substantive editing where necessary, including restructuring sentences for clarity and
coordinate with project teams to clarify content and resolve ambiguities.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
The consultant will have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related
field; (ii) at least 10 years of professional experience editing technical and development-related
documents; (iii) familiarity with ADB editorial standards and development sector terminology preferred;
(iv) capacity to liaise with ADB staff and other stakeholders; and (v) excellent command of written
English and strong attention to detail.
