Summary
Under general supervision, the Watershed Coordinator serves as the coordinator of Watershed Protection Plan initiatives and acts as a facilitator of the Plan and related community activities to restore water quality and quantity in Cypress Creek and the Blanco River Basin. The work involves treating a variety of problems, questions, or situations in conformance with established criteria. This position represents the shared interests of five collaborating entities and is dedicated to advancing the goals of The Blanco Cypress Watershed Protection Plan (BCWPP).

- Develops and implements procedures, work plans, and activities to ensure timely and effective execution of the Blanco-Cypress Watershed Protection Plan (BCWPP).
- Coordinates field activities, including inspections, data collection, and water quality monitoring; work with citizens, landowners, businesses, and contractors to address questions and resolve issues.
- Plans, coordinates, and supports implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) for protecting surface water and groundwater; manage demonstration projects including stormwater, low-impact development (LID), and One Water initiatives.
- Facilitates stakeholder-driven watershed management, using land use, hydrologic, water quality, and groundwater data to identify concerns, goals, and adaptive strategies.
- Builds and maintains productive and positive relationships with county commissioners, city councils, regional planning organizations, state agencies, and other relevant entities.
- Prepares briefings, summaries, and presentations to support evidence-based decisions related to watershed protection and water-quality improvement.
- Serves as a trusted liaison connecting technical science, community needs, and policy contexts. Communicates scientific concepts in accessible language to promote informed decisions and long-term stewardship.
- Provides technical assistance and scientific interpretation to community groups, landowners, developers, and public regarding watershed protection, nonpoint source pollution, and locally appropriate BMPs.
- Leads community engagement and outreach efforts, including educational programs, workshops, tours, school presentations, volunteer events, and the development of outreach materials (minimum four per year).
- Serves as a liaison among partnering entities, including counties, cities, groundwater conservation districts, nonprofit organizations, regional collaboratives, and state and federal agencies; represent Hays County and the Commissioners Court in policy and regulatory discussions.
- Coordinates with decision-makers and neighboring jurisdictions to support policy awareness, interlocal cooperation, and implementation of shared watershed goals.
- Assists communications and public information materials, including maintaining BCWPP website content, preparing newsletters and factsheets, and collaborating with partner communications staff on press releases and scientific summaries.
- Assists with coordination of volunteers for cleanups, restoration projects, monitoring efforts, and other stewardship activities.
- Organizes and facilitates regular stakeholder meetings, including Executive Committee, Steering Committee, and Work Groups, to gather input and encourage ongoing participation.
- Supports grant development and financial management, including working with county grant writers, identifying funding opportunities, tracking cost-share information, and maintaining project and grant records.
- Prepares reports, maps, presentations, and other materials to document progress, communicate findings, and support decision-making.
- Develops and maintains GIS data in coordination with partner and county resources, including mapping land use, stormwater structures, erosion sites, and other watershed features.
- Reviews local ordinances and planning tools to help implement, quantify and improve their effectiveness in maintaining water quality.
- Attends and conducts public meetings and hearings, providing professional representation on sensitive or complex watershed issues.

? Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or related field required.
? 3 years of experience in watershed management, natural resource management, or water quality management.
? Each additional year of required experience may substitute for one year of required education.
