Context

The BRGM’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Directorate, based in Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand, supports government agencies, public institutions, and local authorities.
It conducts R&D and expert assessments in the fields of soil and subsoil, with a particular focus on groundwater.

In a context of increased human pressures and climate change, the challenges lie in the knowledge, management, and quantitative and qualitative preservation of groundwater resources.

The actions carried out include piezometric monitoring, improvement of hydrogeological knowledge, support for public policies and technical support for State services (Support to administrations / Water Police).

Mission description

Your main responsibilities will include:
– Leading and contributing technically to studies and projects related to the management and protection of groundwater resources (quantity, quality, aquifer-river interactions, thermal waters);
– Organizing and supervising field missions (monitoring boreholes, measuring levels and flow rates, piezometrics, water sampling and analysis);
– Occasionally conducting expert assessments (support for government agencies, third-party expertise);
– Supervising or contributing to studies incorporating groundwater level forecasts and/or modeling, in conjunction with specialized teams;
– Participating in the monitoring and reporting of the regional and departmental piezometric network;
– Writing and presenting study results in accordance with the quality management system;
– Contributing to the development of regional activities and partnerships in the areas of water and the environment.

Profile

Desired start date: April 1, 2026.
Contract type: Permanent.
Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent).
Experience: 5-10 years.

You have at least 5 years of experience in a similar position and possess:
– Strong skills in hydrogeology and the disciplines of the water cycle;
– Proven experience in conducting studies and field missions related to water resources and their quality;
– Excellent writing skills;
– Proficiency in data management tools and GIS (QGIS), with an interest in piezometric data and instrumentation.

Knowledge of geothermal energy, aquifer modeling, and emerging pollutants is a plus.

Job specifics

This is a full-time position based in Villeurbanne. It involves regular travel within the region and occasional trips to the Orléans Scientific and Technical Center, or support for other regional offices.
