Local recruitment: Co-ordinator

The Alliance for Conserving Freshwater Ecosystems (ACFWE)

India 🇮🇳

1. Introduction to the Alliance

The Alliance for Conserving Freshwater Ecosystems (ACFWE) is a national, collaborative network working to strengthen the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of India’s freshwater ecosystems. Founded in 2024, the Alliance uses a sociocratic governance model and functions through:

  • Community Circle – a common space for new members, updates, and knowledge sharing
  • Activity Circles – focused on mainstreaming freshwater mindsets, data & technology, and regional conservation
  • Regional Conservation Action Circles (RCACs) – locally led collectives at the sub-basin scale
  • Coordination Circle – the hub of governance, operations, communications, and alignment across the Alliance

The Alliance brings together diverse individuals and institutions across the freshwater ecosystem landscape—NGOs, researchers, community leaders, practitioners, students, and allies—to enable informed, locally rooted action at scale.

2. Role of the Coordinator

The Coordinator serves as the connective tissue of the Alliance. This is a full-time role intended for someone who is self-driven, web-friendly, extremely organised, and invested in the mission of freshwater conservation.

A. Coordination

  • Keep the Alliance organised, up to date, and running smoothly
  • Maintain oversight of the sign-up form, vet new members, and onboard them into the Community Circle (WhatsApp group, mailing list, etc.)
  • Monitor incoming communication across email, LinkedIn, website messages, and ensure timely follow-ups
  • Support convenors of different circles by:
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Sending reminders
  • Taking notes and recording key decisions
  • Helping with logistical and administrative tasks
  • Keep track of what is happening across circles to support alignment and timely follow-through

B. Communications

  • Manage and execute basic but consistent communications on:
  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram
  • Website
  • Use existing templates (Canva, Figma assets, etc.) to create simple posts; no design expertise required
  • Publish a monthly newsletter including:
  • Updates from the Coordination Circle
  • Updates from Activity Circles and RCACs
  • Interesting stories or relevant ecosystem updates
  • Job or opportunity listings when relevant
  • Ensure communications are regular, curated, and aligned with Alliance activities
  • Maintain a simple editorial calendar and execute it reliably

C. Cross-pollination

  • Actively strengthen connections across circles and members
  • Track ongoing discussions so you can identify synergies, potential collaborations, or when someone new could be added to a group or initiative
  • Help bring people together:
  • Suggesting links
  • Making introductions
  • Flagging relevant opportunities or overlaps
  • Monitor the “pulse” of the community — not passively waiting to respond but proactively enabling linkages
  • Support the growth and energy of the Alliance by ensuring people, information, and opportunities flow smoothly across the ecosystem

3. Skills + Attitude We Are Looking For

Skills

  • Strong organisational and coordination abilities
  • Comfort with digital and web-based tools
  • CMS platforms (Framer, WordPress, Google Sites — any is fine)
  • Canva or similar basic design tools
  • Email / newsletter platforms
  • Ability to manage simple content updates consistently
  • Note-taking, meeting administration, and process-management skills
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written)
  • Ability to curate information (not necessarily create new content)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Basic aesthetic sense for simple, template-based posts

Attitude

  • Self-driven and proactive; does not need handholding
  • Interested in the mission of freshwater, ecology, or environmental action is critical
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and consistent
  • Enjoys working with people, networks, and collaborative processes
  • Curious about how different organisations and practitioners connect
  • Comfortable interacting with many people across India
  • Patient, steady, and comfortable with administrative work
  • A “doer” with initiative — willing to step in, solve small problems, and help the system run smoothly

Note: There will be ample support from the members of the Coordination Circle, and active members of the Alliance in the various Activity Circles
