The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), excels at protecting and managing Wisconsin’s natural resources while supporting the economy and the well-being of our residents. We are hiring a Stormwater Specialist in the Bureau of Watershed Management, External Services Division to support the implementation of the Department’s Stormwater Permit Program and implementation of the urban Nonpoint Source program. 

This position may be filled at the entry or senior level dependent on applicant qualifications.

This position will be headquartered in the Green Bay Service Center and will have responsibilities throughout the Northeast Region and potential for support in adjacent areas.

Telework may be available for up to 60% of the workweek. Employees are generally expected to complete any remote work within the state of Wisconsin.  High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.

Position Summary

This position implements the Department’s Stormwater Permit program and supports other watershed management activities in accordance with the federal Clean Water Act and applicable state statutes and administrative code. This position is responsible for the implementation of the construction and industrial storm water programs.

This position implements the Department’s Stormwater Permit program and supports implementation of the urban Nonpoint Source program and other watershed management activities in accordance with the federal Clean Water Act and applicable state statutes and administrative code. This position is responsible for the implementation of the municipal (MS4), construction, and industrial storm water programs.

Salary Information

Starting pay is between $30.00 to $35.00 per hour (or $62,400 to $72,800 annually), in addition to excellent benefits, for the Entry level. 

Starting pay is between $32.00 to $37.00 per hour (or $66,560 to $76,960 annually), in addition to excellent benefits, for the Senior level. 

These positions are included in the classification Wastewater Specialist within Pay Schedule/Ranges 15-04 for Entry, and 15-03 for Senior.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Physical/ Environmental Factors: This position is required to conduct site inspections and compliance determination including walking in various terrain, carrying field equipment and digging soil pits. Travel: This position will require travel throughout the assigned geographic area for meetings and field inspections and will require some occasional statewide travel and overnight stays for meetings, trainings, or to provide program implementation support, and may require minimal out-of-state travel.

Qualifications

You need to have the following training and/or experience:

  • Experience interpreting and applying principles and practices of surface water quality monitoring and data interpretation to assess biological, chemical, and physical features of lakes, rivers, and streams.                          
  • Experience working with data entry, retrieval, and data management.
  • Experience working with soil science, stormwater and/or water management principles and processes.     

The following training and/or experience would be nice to have:

  • Experience interpreting and applying State and federal laws and Wisconsin Administrative Rules pertaining to surface water quality, wetland and groundwater standards.                              
  • Education or comparable experience related to Wisconsin Pollution Discharge Elimination System program for the management of wastewater from point sources and nonpoint sources.
  • Education or comparable experience related to Wisconsin’s urban and construction site stormwater management program as it relates to the development and implementation of TMDLs.
