JOB SCOPE:
AKAH India is an Emergency Management and Habitat Development agency of Aga Khan Development Network. AKAH India, a national agency is ensuring the safety, preparedness and long-term resilience of communities and has its presence in fourteen states in India. It plays a key role in planning and delivering effective, efficient and context-specific disaster responses to vulnerable communities in which we work. Our objective is to build the resilience of communities towards disasters and equip them for rapid and competent response in times of any emergency. This ensures the provision of a stable platform in sustainable development of resilient communities, particularly amongst the most vulnerable sections of society.
AKAH India is looking to recruit motivated Program Manager (PM) to lead the Water Security and Climate Adaptation Project as a part of Emergency Management and Development Programs. The PM will provide overall support in planning and execution of project activities under the said project, (Gandhidham Kandla location). S/he will be responsible to carry-out the day-to-day management at field level to ensure effective implementation of all project activities and support in preparation of quality donor reports on monthly /quarterly /annually etc. under the strict deadlines as agreed with the Donor.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Program Management:
- PM will be responsible to support Program Head in ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of the project at field level.
- Leading a team of development professionals at field level i.e., project coordinator, project engineer, accounts /admin to ensure the timely and quality programme deliverables.
- Regularly reviewing and monitoring the project activities and ensuring project guidelines are followed.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor the project implementation process and prepare periodic progress reports as required.
- Liaison with District /block /village level stakeholders for inclusive participation and implementation
Partnerships and Networking:
- Establish non-financial partnership with local administration at District /block /village levels
- Maintain good relationship with target communities, relevant government authorities, Non-Government Organizations and other relevant stakeholders
- Mobilise and mentor the project beneficiaries
Documentations:
- Ensure that project documents are complete, and maintained appropriately
- In collaboration with the Monitoring & Evaluation Team and Communication Officer, identify “lessons learned” and “best practices” as well as develop project success stories for wider dissemination. Contribute to Knowledge management initiatives of organisation.
- Produce relevant presentations and documentation to key group and relevant stakeholders
The requirements
SPECIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
Education: Minimum Master’s degree with specialization in social work /welfare /science /environmental sciences /rural and urban development /disaster management. Additional certifications in Development Sector will be value additions.
Experience: At least 5-10 years of experience in water /agriculture /environmental science, out of which 3-5 years
at leadership level.
Technical Skill:
- Capacity building skill (Knowledge of designing & implementing trainings)
- Proficiency in word /excel /power point
Other Skills:
- Interpersonal; Oral Communication; Public Speaking; Counselling; Coaching / Mentoring; Teaching / Training; Leadership; Negotiating; Problem Solving; Planning and Coordination and Language Skills (proficient in English and Hindi. Knowledge of other regional languages will be value additions).
- Knowledge of English/Gujarati /Hindi language (read /speak) can be of added advantage.

A new agency, the Aga Khan Agency for the Habitat (AKAH), works to ensure that people live in physical settings that are as safe as possible from the effects of natural disasters, that residents who do live in such high risk areas are able to cope with disasters in terms of preparedness and response, and that these settings provide access to social and financial services that lead to greater opportunities and a better quality of life.
