The position

Water Security & Climate Adaptation
Project Background In partnership with Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India (AKAHI) is implementing a project on Environment Sustainability in 6 water stress villages at Kandla, Gandhidham, Kutch. The key objective of this project is better water resource management regarding water security and climate adaptation.

Some of the key actions planned include enhancing water availability through watershed development interventions which would be location specific, groundwater recharge and climate adaptation measures. JOB SCOPE:
AKAH India is an Emergency Management and Habitat Development agency of Aga Khan Development Network. AKAH India, a national agency is ensuring the safety, preparedness and long-term resilience of communities and has its presence in fourteen states in India. It plays a key role in planning and delivering effective, efficient, and context-specific disaster responses to vulnerable communities in which we work. Our objective is to build the resilience of communities towards disasters and equip them for rapid and competent response in times of any emergency. This ensures the provision of a stable platform in sustainable development of resilient communities, particularly amongst the most vulnerable sections of society.

AKAH India is looking to recruit motivated Project Engineer (PE) to lead the Water Security and Climate Adaptation Project as a part of Emergency Management and Development Programs. The PE will provide technical supervision during construction of water security interventions to achieve quality construction. Also, overall support in planning and execution of project activities under the said project. S/he will be responsible to carry-out the day-to-day management at field level to ensure effective implementation of all technical interventions and support in preparation of quality donor reports on monthly /quarterly /annually etc. under the strict deadlines as agreed with the Donor. Roles

  • To provide technical supervision during construction of water security interventions planned.
  • To provide technical support or training to engineering team operating in Project villages.
  • To provide support to Project Office with any task assigned.

Responsibilities

  • To travel to various project sites as and when required either by available public transport or company / personal vehicle (as per travel and vehicle usage policy).
  • To carry out site supervision as per instructions and ensure implementation of quality parameters.
  • To prepare and/or review Bill of Quantities (BOQ) including repairs.
  • To support Project Office in assessing quality parameters of construction activities including repairs.
  • To deliver Technical Session in the Community Mobilisation activities as and when required.
  • To carry out or support any Technical Survey as per instructions.
  • To report fortnightly progress for each site to Reporting Manager.
  • To liaise with Promoters / Core Community Institutions including for implementing Project activities.
  • To assist Promoters / Core Community Institution in procurement of construction material required for construction of sanitation units including repairs.

Administration

  • To maintain and file all relevant documents pertaining to project activities.
  • To obtain and submit proper bills / receipt / voucher while incurring any expenditure related to Project.

The requirements

SPECIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
Education: Diploma in Civil Engineer / B.E.

Experience: 5-7 years’ experience in Water and Sanitation Program.

Skills:
     Technical Skills:

  • Able to understand construction quality assurance and control parameters.
  • Well versed in Structural Engineering with ETABS can be of added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of design software like AutoCAD and latest CAD software
  • Able to understand community development parameters.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Documentations for Projects for the reference of Donors, Regulatory authorities, and beneficiaries.

  • Co-ordination Skills.
  • Knowledge of Gujarati language shall be an added advantage.
