PhD: Climate change adaptation of drainage systems

University of Adelaide

Adelaide SA, Australia 🇦🇺

The purpose of the existing drainage system is to collect the stormwater runoff from the catchment after the rainfall event as quickly as possible and thus manage the flooding. The existing drainage system was designed and constructed using historical rainfall patterns. The climate change may alter the rainfall patterns and highly intensive short duration rainfall events may be more frequent in future. The existing drainage system will be unable to manage the flooding for RCP 8.5 scenario. This proposed project will explore the possible options of climate change adaptation of drainage system for RCP 8.5 scenario. Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) technologies will be utilised for the climate change adaptation of drainage system. Both technical and economic adaptation of drainage system using WSUD will be explored.
