Under the auspices of the West Virginia Watershed Improvement Branch, employee will develop and implement water quality improvement projects.

The employee will do this in cooperation and communication with all local, state, and federal agencies, industry, business, academia, as well as a diversity of other watershed stakeholder interests, such as environmental groups, local citizenry, and watershed associations.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Promote development of local subcommittees and project teams involving stakeholder groups, track their activities, facilitate meetings, and oversee watershed projects, assist partners in coordinating, planning and implementation to ensure successful accomplishment of the watershed improvement branch goals.
  • Employee will oversee the preparation of reports, planning and funding documents.
  • Will act as the primary point-of-contact with state agencies, elected officials, other entities, and the public on issues related to the identified priority watersheds in the western basin of the state.
  • Will organize and educate stakeholders to be ready for future involvement with the watershed management framework cycle.
  • Will assist with public outreach and education efforts in conjunction with nonpoint, stream partners, Project Wet, Save Our Streams, and TMDL programs.
  • Will coordinate public information among the participating agencies and DEP’s Public Information Office.
  • Will be responsible for assisting and development and maintenance of all database and filing systems of watershed projects.
  • Employee will perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources, environmental protection or in an agency-specific area related to environmental impact.

OR

Substitution: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours for every one (1) year of experience.

Other Information

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in nonprofit management or environmental training (e.g., stormwater, septic, acid mine drainage, or stream design), GIS skills, volunteer coordination experience, and/or degrees in environmental studies, biology, or geology.
