Posting Context StatementThe Idaho Water Resources Research Institute (IWRRI) seeks a Communications Strategist I to lead implementation of its communications plan, coordinate with web teams, manage newsletter content and submissions, and support efforts to elevate water research across Idaho while engaging volunteers and stakeholders in IWRRI activities.This interdisciplinary role requires familiarity with IWRRI’s mission and demonstrated experience communicating water-related topics. Key duties include managing newsletter and web content, supporting science communication, coordinating with stakeholders, and promoting IWRRI programs statewide.
Position OverviewThe position ensures effective internal and external communication, branding and messaging by leading and collaborating on communication efforts within the unit and across campus. This position advances the reputation of the University of Idaho and assigned unit(s) through purposeful and creative messaging that is tied to strategic initiatives and builds campus wide and public understanding and support for the teaching and research mission of the unit(s) specifically, as well as the University of Idaho in general. The position will work in a collaborative environment with team members and University Communications and Marketing to create impactful communications.Duties may include:Write and edit a variety of content in digital and print formatsMaintain the project or effort website, social media presence and online communications; collaborate on data collection for a variety of reportsMay assist with day-to-day office operationsProvide consultation and writing support to department leadershipOther duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Required ExperienceOne year of communications, marketing, graphic design, journalism, or public relations experienceEditing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materialsWorking in customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goalsHandling a variety of projects simultaneously that requires attention to details
Required EducationAssociate’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations; two additional years of experience (for a total of three years) may substitute for a Associate’s Degree
Required OtherNone
Additional PreferredAbility to collaborate and exhibit interpersonal and communication skills with internal and external constituentsExperience working in higher educationAbility to translate technical or specialized information for public use and understandingEvent planning and coordination experienceWeb and design knowledgeExperience using send grid, multi-faceted communications platforms
