Support the District’s Water Resources Bureau managing multiple tasks and priorities in fast-paced, team-oriented environment. As part of the Water Resources Bureau team, the Project Manager will conduct professional – level technical and administrative work in the areas of water resources for large scale water supply projects. The successful candidate will manage water supply projects including review of technical data, utilization of project milestone tracking databases, schedule/budget modifications and/or contract amendments, review and approval of invoices, and grant tracking while working in coordination with water, wastewater, and reclaimed utilities and water supply authorities to plan and implement regional water supply projects in coordination with cooperators and other District staff. Compensation: 

Hydrogeologist 1  $53,589.00 – $72,931.50
Hydrogeologist 2: $57,875.00 – $78,741.00
Hydrogeologist 3  $61,254.00 – $84,423.00

The starting salary ranges are included for the hydrogeologist profile which reflects the minimum to approximately 50% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes all features associated with the development of potable water and alternative water supply, and reclaimed water projects including feasibility, planning, design, cost effectiveness, and construction of project components based on sound technical principles.
  • Conducts technical review of projects within expected time frames and established requirements. Applies appropriate analytical techniques to water resource projects and makes sound recommendations.
  • Performs project management duties, including evaluation of requests for proposals and bids, review of applications for our Cooperative Funding Initiative, contract negotiations, contractor oversight, and cost tracking against budgeted funds.
  • Serves as a technical resource and liaison between water supply utilities, other agencies, local governments, consultants, and members of the public.
  • Prepares reports including recommendations, agreements, specifications, contracts, and other related correspondences, and updates key stakeholders as needed.
  • Communicates scientific and technical information in various formats such as charts, graphs, briefings, reports, and/or presentations.
  • Provides periodic guidance to entry-level technical staff, students, and other District staff on appropriate geological practices, depending on experience.
  • Uses appropriate software, databases, modeling systems, and other technology.
  • Depending on experience, may act as the technical contact, coordinator, or lead on large scale regional teams, and oversee the work of assigned staff or contractors.
  • Participates in and coordinates in emergency management activities, other departmental activities, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides technical guidance in support of long-range water supply and water resource development planning.
  • Coordinates with and participates in Regional, State, and National reclaimed and potable water organizations.

Working Conditions

In-office: Standard office environment and equipment such as personal computer, copier, etc. Occasional travel may be required. Ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding and driving) with one or both hands and feet is required.

In-field: Work performed in the field may often be in remote and undeveloped areas of the District, under adverse weather conditions. Travel and some outdoor labor may be required. May be exposed to extremes in elements, temperature and humidity and to a variety of pests, including mosquitoes and ticks.

Must be able to able to bend, lift, carry, and reach above shoulder level. May occasionally require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be able to operate a motorized vehicle for extended periods, some driving may be in off-road (4×4) conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Employee may be subject to call-in outside of regularly scheduled work hours, or required to be on call, including on nights, weekends or holidays, to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.

Required Credentials for Water Supply Hydrogeologist 

 Hydrogeologist 1

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Geology or related technical field
  • Valid driver’s license

Hydrogeologist 2

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Geology or related technical field
  • Two (2) years related work experience 
  • Understanding of project management 
  • Experience with potable water supply utilities
  • Valid driver’s license

Hydrogeologist 3

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Geology or related technical field
  • Four (4) years related work experience 
  • Florida Professional Geologist License 
  • Understanding of project management 
  • Experience with potable water supply utilities 
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Credentials for All Water Supply Hydrogeologist

  • Experience working on alternative water supply and reclaimed water projects
  • Experience with Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) and Aquifer Recharge (AR) projects, including UIC permitting

Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, out of the Brooksville, FL office. Remote work opportunities may be available up to 3 days a week, once the first three months are successful. This position is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
