Offer Description
The project aims to design and develop an analytical kit for the optical detection of PFAS in aqueous samples. Specifically, coordination compounds of trivalent lanthanide ions (Eu³⁺ and Tb³⁺) will be synthesized and characterized both chemically and from a structural and spectroscopic point of view. These compounds will then be employed for the recognition of these pollutants. This will be possible thanks to an interaction between the metal ion and the hydrophilic portion of PFAS, following which the intensity of the light emitted by the metal ion (after photo-excitation) is modified. Using standard solutions containing the pollutant molecules (for example, PFOS and PFOA), the optical detection method will be calibrated and subsequently applied to real matrices of contaminated drinking water. Finally, the proposed method will be validated using the analytical techniques currently employed for the determination of these pollutants.
