Summary:
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) in the College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences (CALNS) at Alabama A&M University is seeking faculty member in the field of Geospatial Data Analytics. This position is a nine-month tenure track appointment with 50% Teaching and 50% Research, with an additional three-month summer research employment. Initial research funding will be available. The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on qualifications.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) includes undergraduate programs in Plant Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Forestry. Graduate programs include Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Plant and Soil Science.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in geospatial analysis (remote sensing and GIS), hydrology, and data modeling
  • Teach graduate courses in advanced geospatial analysis, quantitative ecological assessments in natural resources using remote sensing and modeling, or a related area
  • Serve as advisor to both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Lead and be a part of a nationally recognized, externally funded interdisciplinary research program that advances knowledge about geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and landscape ecology.
  • Working collaboratively with other faculty members and representatives of private, governmental, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Publish in leading refereed journals and successfully obtain extramural funding.
  • Purse informal extension and public service activities, such as interacting with Cooperative Extension staff and government agency personnel.
  • Serve on campus committees and professional organizations
  • Evidence of ability to secure extramural funding from public and/or private sources.
  • Must support and teach the Environmental, Soil and Water Science program and courses as one of their primary responsibilities.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in the areas of Environmental Soil Chemistry,
  • Evidence of interest and ability to form collaborative partnerships – within and across university disciplines, across national/international institutions, and within private industry.
  • Evidence of ability and willingness to effectively advise and mentor students from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  • Other duties assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • An earned Ph.D.in a geospatial analysis and remote sensing (e.g., LiDAR, satellite imagery, and photogrammetry) as they apply to natural resource management, landscape ecology, earth sciences, or closely related field.
  • Proficiency with spatial analysis (e.g., ArcGIS), image analysis (e.g., ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, and TerrSet) and statistical software.
  • Teaching experience in GIS and remote sensing, and a demonstrated record establishing a strong record of extramural grant awards, refereed journal publications, and professional leadership at regional, national, or international meetings is preferred
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and creativity, such as refereed publications, presentations in professional societies ,etc.
