We are looking for a hydrogeologist to join our team and work at the forefront of managing the challenges of providing resilient and environmentally sustainable water supplies for the future, while ensuring water habitats are protected from new infrastructure development. We are undertaking an increasing number and range of important and exciting projects that involve groundwater resource evaluation, development and management and environmental impact investigation for water companies, other major water users and regulators. As an already experienced, and ideally chartered, hydrogeologist, you will have led and delivered groundwater related project tasks in Ireland, the UK and/or internationally. You will work closely with our technical specialists who are based in our established teams across Ireland, both the Republic and in the North, and in the UK. We have a friendly and approachable team with a strong reputation for delivering excellence with multiple clients.
Your role
- You will work with our WMC Ireland lead and other technical disciplines in winning, delivering and managing our portfolio of water projects and developing trusted client relationships, with a focus on hydrogeology.
- You will champion high standards of performance, and influence project development. As an experienced hydrogeologist you will have the technical knowledge and project/bid skills to undertake work assigned to you to a high standard, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- You are likely to undertake and delegate complex problem solving, which may include, data gathering and processing, calculations and modelling, conceptualisation, reporting, impact assessment, proposal writing and costing.
- Collaborative and supportive teamwork is vital to our success, and you will work closely with the rest of other groundwater staff, mostly in the UK, sometimes delegating to, reviewing the work of and mentoring more junior staff.
- You will also work collaboratively with other technical disciplines in the Water Management Consultancy Ireland and UK teams and beyond, delivering a range of projects relating to water supply, strategic planning, resource optimization and environmental assessment.
About you
- With a degree in science, engineering or mathematics and ideally a post‑graduate qualification in hydrogeology or a related subject, you are likely to be chartered through a relevant professional body.
- Demonstrable experience as a hydrogeologist within consultancy, water company, regulator or academic fields.
- Your experience will include water resources hydrogeology and hydrology, for example work with the water industry, e.g. on low flows, Water Framework Directive No Deterioration or Environmental Destination, catchment water quality), signal and pumping tests, borehole design, groundwater flooding or water resource planning.
- You will have a good understanding of Irish hydrogeology, in particular the karstic systems common in Ireland, and of the operational and environmental regulatory framework of Irish water management.
- You will have experience of leading project tasks and possibly entire projects through problem definition, data collection, analysis, interpretation and drawing succinct conclusions and recommendations.
- You will be able to provide evidence that you can develop new and innovative approaches will be advantageous.
- You will have excellent numerical, analytical, report‑writing and presentational skills and an eye for detail.
- You will be highly motivated and proactive and enjoy solving challenging water resources problems within a high achieving team environment.
- You will be able to communicate effectively at all levels to support collaborative working and the building of high‑quality client relationships.
- You will have valid full, clean Irish driving license.
