Scientific Collaboration Agreement with Sicilian Water Authority via EURAXESS

Università degli Studi di Catania

Catania, Italy 🇮🇹

Offer Description

Public selection process, based on qualifications and examinations, for the recruitment of a second-level technologist on a fixed-term (18-month) and full-time basis, for technical and administrative support activities within the framework of the Scientific Collaboration Agreement with the Sicilian Region-Sicilian Hydrographic District Basin Authority, as well as within the WETWISE Project – INTERREG VI A Italy-Malta 2021-2027 Programme – Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Catania. The personnel to be recruited will carry out highly technical and professional activities, including the following: definition of river zones and river-related areas based on geomorphological and hydraulic criteria; sampling of river sediments and their analysis; assessment and modeling of solid transport, hydrological and hydraulic analyses for the definition of Lamination Plans; assessment of the current safety conditions of the defence system; assessment of the ecological structure of the river system; Definition of the river system structure in relation to the protection and risk management objectives of the FRMP; identification of NWRM based on hydrological and hydraulic analyses; performance of in-situ surveys and sampling to collect topographic, hydraulic-hydrological, sedimentological, and ecological data at the project’s pilot sites; performance of activities, including fieldwork, to support the installation and maintenance of the monitoring network; processing and analysis of abiotic and biotic data obtained from monitoring and fieldwork; collection of existing data relevant to the pilot site (marine meteorological, hydrological, land use, etc.) for analysis and development of the digital twin; hydrological, hydraulic, and marine meteorological analyses to define the input forcings for the digital twin; construction of a calculation grid, calibration, and validation of numerical eco-hydro-morphodynamic models for the development of a digital twin of the project’s pilot site; performance of eco-hydraulic characterization studies, i.e. identification of relevant plant species and parameterization of hydrodynamic effects of the site; Comparative analysis of climate change scenarios simulated using the digital twin and potential nature-based options; analysis of modeling results and identification of meaningful metrics for calculating ecosystem service gains and losses (scorecard methodology) due to both climate change and simulated interventions; based on analysis and modeling results, support for co-design and implementation of environmental restoration interventions at the project pilot site; support for organizing project events and ensuring the proper execution of activities among partners.
