About Mallee CMA
Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority. Our role it is to facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of natural, cultural, and productive landscapes. The Mallee CMA region covers 3.9 million hectares – about one fifth of Victoria. It is the largest catchment area in the state and runs along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border, and south through vast dryland cropping areas and public reserves.
About the opportunity
The Environmental Specialist Groundwater will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the Mallee region’s environmental health by supporting the effective management of salinity programs and services. Working within the framework of the Mallee Regional Catchment Strategy (2022–28) and the Victorian Mallee Irrigation Region Land and Water Management Plan (2020–29), this position contributes directly to two key Mallee CMA business objectives: to protect and enhance the region’s natural, cultural, and productive values; and ensure community is central to planning, delivery, and evaluation of natural resource management (NRM).
In this role, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to understand current and emerging salinity threats, design and deliver innovative projects, and ensure compliance with monitoring and reporting obligations. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, government partners, and community groups to achieve environmental, social, and cultural outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to long-term water security and ecosystem health in the Victorian Mallee.
This is a full-time permanent position, with a salary of $100,137.72 plus superannuation.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong analytical mindset and a passion for environmental sustainability. You have demonstrated ability to research complex issues, interpret scientific and anecdotal data, and provide clear, evidence-based advice. Your experience in end-to-end project management means you can confidently prepare project plans, engage consultants, manage contracts, and deliver high-quality reports on time. You are an excellent communicator who can build rapport with diverse stakeholders, from technical specialists to community representatives. Ideally, you have a sound understanding of groundwater processes or experience in groundwater modelling and analysis, coupled with a commitment to continuous learning and innovation in natural resource management.
