The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2026. The position emphasizes two complementary priority areas: Transportation Engineering and Environmental Engineering.


This position supports the Department’s strategic vision to advance research and education in sustainable infrastructure, smart mobility, and environmental resilience. The successful candidate will contribute to both the transportation and environmental engineering programs, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across the department and the Herff College of Engineering.
The new faculty member will have opportunities to engage with several major research centers housed within the department and college, including the Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering Research (CAESER), the Resilient Smart Cities Innovation Center (ReSInC), The Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Economic Research (CTIER), the Center for Electrified and Automated Trucking (CEAT), and the Southeast Transportation Workforce Center (SETWC) each driving regional and national innovation in sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems.

Research and Teaching Focus
Ideal candidates will be in one or more of the following areas:


Transportation Engineering
Connected and automated vehicles (CAV) and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)
Freight logistics, electrification, and sustainable mobility systems
Transportation infrastructure resilience and asset management
Transportation safety, simulation, and human factors
Data-driven and AI-enabled modeling for multimodal systems



Environmental Engineering
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Environmental monitoring, contaminant transport, and remediation
Climate adaptation and resilience in water infrastructure
Environmental health, risk modeling, and sustainability analytics
Smart sensing, data integration, and digital environmental systems

Minimum Position QualificationsA Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent from an accredited institution in Civil, Environmental, or Transportation engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

The position requires a minimum of two years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher, fellow, or similar position.
