Job description
- Background of the recruitment and description of the projectIrrigation is essential for stabilizing agricultural productivity in arid and semi-arid regions. Nevertheless, poor drainage is a serious problem in developing regions. It leads to soil salinization caused by high-salinity irrigation water and by residual salt and moisture due to deficient drainage. Since drainage improvement is an effective solution to the latter cause, farmer-friendly and easily-adoptable technologies which improve drainage in developing regions are very much needed.
In response, JIRCAS is promoting the demonstration and practical implementation of shallow underdrainage technology. To further develop research in this field, JIRCAS is looking for researcher(s) knowledgeable of drainage to explicate the mechanisms of water and salt movement within farmland and to develop drainage improvement technologies, by means of experiments and analysis using quantitative simulations, which farmers can implement in their farming activities.
In addition to the requisite knowledge and research achievements, the researcher must be willing to stay in developing regions to do pro-active research in collaboration with researchers in Japan and overseas. By fostering an excellent international perspective throughout the term of office, the researcher is expected to play a leading role in the field of rural development. - Work content and job description【Examples of Research Projects】
