Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Environmental Health Manager Ill Assist the Data Coordination Manager in development and maintenance of data to support the South Carolina Strategic Risk Reduction and Resilience Plan. Collects and evaluates technical information related to flooding and other extreme weather events. Review and evaluate environmental models and other hydrological information and report on their relevance to the resilience planning effort. Participates in meetings and public hearings related for the purpose if making recommendations and explaining the plan. 

  • Assist the Data Coordination Manager in the evaluation of technical information related to flood and other extreme weather events.
  • Review and evaluate environmental models and report on their relevance to the Resilience planning effort.
  • Assist the Data Coordination Manager in identifying vulnerabilities to flood and other extreme weather events through the evaluation of technical environmental information and developing recommendations to attenuate those risks.
  • Assist the Data Coordination Manager in data management for the development and maintenance of the South Carolina Strategic Risk Reduction and Resilience Plan.
  • Participate in meetings and public hearings related to the planning process. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences, environmental science or related technical field and one year of experience in conducting environmental investigations.


Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices utilized in environmental investigations. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws related to the area of program responsibility. 
  • Skill in the use of instruments, tools and equipment utilized in environmental investigations. 
  • Ability to interpret environmental data for the purpose of recommending rules, regulations and policies. 
  • Ability to work independently on environmental investigations. 
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct complex environmental and maintain working relationships with staff and the general public. 
  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires routine driver duties.
  • Position requires frequent lifting: 20 lbs.
  • Position requires Non-Essential declaration.
  • Position may be required to work during emergency situations.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards that are known predictable and comfortable.
