Project Assistant in Modelling Digital Twin in Drinking Water Systems

Chalmers

Gothenburg, Sweden 🇸🇪

Reference number REF 2025-0586

If you are interested in drinking water and appreciate modelling drinking water distribution networks, this project is for you. You will work in an academic environment within ongoing research projects, collaborating closely with the drinking water industry.

About us

The Water Environment Technology (WET) division at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering conducts research primarily in drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. In the research area of drinking water, our focus includes flow modelling and risk assessment in distribution networks, water reuse and conservation, laboratory analytical chemistry, and risk management. This project specifically concentrates on flow modelling and contaminant transport within the distribution network.

Job description

The project assistant will support the development of a decision support system based on a digital twin of the drinking water network. This Digital twin system will be used to detect leaks, that later can lead to pipe breaks, and also for emergency preparedness preventing and detecting system attacks. Key aspects include flow modelling of the network under normal and emergency conditions to stress the system and assess how the digital twin can aid decision-making from these scenarios.
