Job Description: Expert Vacataire – Hydrological and climate modeling

Profile & Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
- Proven expertise in hydrological modeling, with strong experience in the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) for watershed-scale analysis.
- Demonstrated capacity to integrate hydrological models with climate change scenarios, including downscaled climate data analysis.
- Solid background in remote sensing applications, especially in:
- Land use/land cover (LULC) mapping,
- Development of future LULC change scenarios and their integration into hydrological models.
- Strong publication record and/or applied project experience in the above areas.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct advanced hydrological simulations using SWAT to assess water resources under current and future climate scenarios.
- Integrate climate change projections into watershed modeling frameworks.
- Apply remote sensing methods for land use/cover mapping and scenario development, with emphasis on agricultural and natural ecosystems.
- Contribute to research reports, publications, and capacity-building activities related to hydrological and climate change modeling.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (climate scientists, agronomists, soil scientists, GIS experts) within the project framework.
Skills & competencies
- Strong command of hydrological modeling software (SWAT, SWAT+).
- Proficiency in remote sensing and GIS (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine).
- Familiarity with climate datasets (e.g., CMIP6, CORDEX) and statistical downscaling approaches.
- Programming and data analysis skills (e.g., R, Python) are highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills in English and [French/Arabic, if relevant].
