Details: The ACT Office of Water is seeking an experienced and motivated Program Support Officer to assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects under the ‘Restoring the Upper Murrumbidgee River Program’ (RUMR Program). This five-year initiative is aimed at improving the health of the river through science and monitoring activities, on-ground river restoration works and increased First Nations and community participation in water management and river health activities.

The role will work with key stakeholders to assist in the delivery of a range of RUMR projects in the ACT. These may include on-ground river restoration works, science and monitoring projects and First Nations and the broader community projects. An understanding of local catchment management issues and knowledge in areas such freshwater ecology and stream restoration works, would be an advantage.

You will be required to develop and maintain positive relationships and communications with government agencies, First Nations communities, non-government organisations and community groups. The role will also work closely with Water Information Services team in the Office of Water as well as NSW counterparts to deliver works that are strategic and delivering the greatest long-term benefit for the upper Murrumbidgee River. Elements of collaborative work practices and project management will be essential.

Program delivery will include preparing briefings, meeting papers, correspondence, milestone reports and other material in line with ACT and Commonwealth government reporting requirements.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

Mandatory:

  • An ACT Class C driver’s licence or equivalent

Highly Desirable:

  • Understanding and experience regarding the issues impacting the health of the upper Murrumbidgee River catchment.
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in environmental science/freshwater management or a related discipline.

Other Requirements:

  • The selected officer will be expected to travel around the ACT and NSW regions of the upper Murrumbidgee River
  • The selected officer can be based in Canberra or within the Upper Murrumbidgee catchment area.

Notes: This is a temporary position available from 30 October 2025 for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension.
