Job description

This is a key role within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) East Anglia Programme team, working closely with internal and external colleagues on the forecasting, monitoring, and performance of Risk Management Authority-led flood risk projects.

The role-holder will liaise with project teams across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk to maintain a good working knowledge of project progress, anticipated spend and likelihood of delivery. This knowledge will feed into monthly updates to business boards, quarterly updates to Regional Flood & Coastal Committees, enable effective dialogue between teams and partners, and position the role-holder as a technical expert within the Programme team.

They will also lead on data fidelity and upkeep of numerous databases and spreadsheet-based trackers to ensure data held within the team is always accurate and up-to-date.

As a technical leader, the role-holder will also mentor junior team members and deliver training to other teams and organisations.

Travel across East Anglia to co-locate with other teams is required.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. All staff are required to have an incident role and make themselves available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payments, and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support incident roles.

In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.

It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.

The candidate pack and generic role profile should be read along with the advert to understand the key accountabilities and skills needed.

The team

The Programme Team sits within the FCRM Department in Local Operations and provides technical support and analysis to teams delivering projects on the investment programme. Working closely with colleagues and professional partners, we track spend and performance, presenting accurate and consistent figures to a range of customers including Executive Management, Area Leadership Team and external audiences.

As a dispersed team, we work flexibly, with time spent both working from home and at local offices.

Experience/skills required

We are seeking somebody who;

  • Has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across a diverse customer base.
  • Possesses excellent data management skills with the ability to interpret large data sets (experience with Excel will be advantageous).

  • Is well organised and able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Can prioritise and manage complex programmes with competing outcomes.
  • Has good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Can deliver results through others.

As the team is dispersed, self-management, motivation, and good communication skills are essential.

Please don’t be put off applying if you do not have experience in FCRM. The key things we are looking for are a track record of delivery, people skills, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Driving licence is not essential but preferred as travel across East Anglia required.
