Introduction
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Environmental Management, Bureau of Drinking and Groundwater Water is accepting applications for a Water Use Hydrogeologist Program Coordinator.
This position is located in Central Office, Madison.
This recruitment may be used for any similar vacancies that become available in the near future. Remote work will be available, after the initial onboarding period. The exact amount is based on program need and supervisor discretion.

Position Summary
This position provides geologic, hydrogeologic, and technical expertise, along with project management and leadership, in evaluating complex and sensitive high-capacity well applications. It plays a key role in reviewing groundwater quantity projects, serving as a statewide expert and ensuring compliance with the Water Use Section’s program responsibilities. The role requires in-depth knowledge of the DG program and other Environmental Management division initiatives to effectively address complex high-capacity well issues, including water loss approvals, well contamination, groundwater-surface water interactions, analytical and numerical modeling, private well impacts, and best practices in well construction. Additionally, this position interprets and applies NR 812, NR 140, and NR 820 administrative rules while navigating the challenges of high-capacity well sites.

Salary Information
Water Use Hydrogeologist Program Coordinator starting salary is between $38.00 – $43.00 / hour ($79,040.00 – $ 89,440.00) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.
The classification is Hydrogeologist Program Coordinator which is in schedule-range 15 – 03. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Remote Work: May occur as per department telework guidelines and supervisor approval.
Travel: The position is responsible for statewide program administration. Occasional in-state travel will be required with occasional overnight stays.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following qualifications:
- Experience in evaluation, analysis and interpretation of hydrologic or hydrogeologic data including groundwater and surface water interaction.
- Experience in managing complex groundwater projects that include project scoping, budget, quantitative hydrogeologic analyses, interdisciplinary consideration, and geologic heterogeneity.
- Experience communicating scientific findings or regulatory information to the public or regulated community in a variety of communication formats.
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications:
- Experience interpreting and applying law or policy related to water withdrawals and use.
- Experience interpreting Wisconsin hydrostratigraphy and its impact on groundwater quality and quantity conditions.
- Demonstrated experience of initiative and leadership in improving data systems, analytical tools, or program methods related to groundwater quantity management.
