The Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Research Staff / Academic Staff (PhD Position) in the field of Water Resources Management (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
The fixed-term position is for a duration of 36 months with a possible extension.
Your role
The successful candidate will conduct independent scientific research on managed water retention and its representation in river basin models. In addition to dams, this also includes wetlands (moors). The research will examine issues relating to water quantity and water quality.
This is a position for early-stage researchers with the opportunity to pursue a doctorate. The duties include assisting with teaching for the institute’s courses and supervising student work.
Who are we looking for?
The prerequisite for employment is a completed university degree in civil or environmental engineering with a specialisation in water management, in hydrology, geoecology or related fields. We expect above-average marks and an interest in scientific work and doctoral studies.
In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following:
- good knowledge of Hydrology, Mathematical and basic Natural Science
- good computer programming skills
- very good proficiency in English language; you are expected to be willing to teach in English and write scientific articles in English
- German language skills (at least B1); you are expected to be willing to develop these skills so that you can communicate fluently in German in your second year
- willingness to carry out field work even in rough terrain
