The FAO Inter-Regional Technical Platform on Water Scarcity (iRTP-WS) is pleased to announce the launch of a call for nominations for its Technical Advisory Group (TAG). This initiative offers a unique opportunity for experts to contribute to shaping regional and global responses to water scarcity, climate resilience, and food security.
Established to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time, the iRTP-WS serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, partnerships and innovation. It connects stakeholders across regions to scale up solutions in resilience and climate change adaptation, water productivity, non-conventional water resources and water governance. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, the platform supports countries and regions in advancing the water-related targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular focus on SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
The Technical Advisory Group will bring together independent experts to provide technical and scientific guidance to ensure the quality, relevance and impact of the platform’s work. Members will advise on priority topics and innovation pathways, review the biennial work plan, promote inter-regional collaboration in research, training and capacity development and contribute to flagship events and high-level dialogues. Their contributions will help guarantee the scientific integrity of the platform and reinforce its role as a global reference in tackling agricultural water scarcity.
By joining the TAG, experts will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading policymakers, practitioners and development partners, influence water-related policies and practices and contribute to advancing innovative approaches to sustainable resource management. The group will be composed of independent members, selected in their personal capacity on the basis of their scientific expertise, international experience and ability to provide impartial advice. Appointments will be for a two-year term, renewable once.
Interested individuals are invited to submit their nominations by 15 November, 2025. Applications must include a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages and a letter of interest of up to 500 words outlining relevant experience, a vision for the TAG and proposed priorities for the platform. Further details on eligibility, the application process and submission guidelines are available here.
The iRTP-WS strongly encourages applications from developing regions, including women, young professionals and indigenous groups, while welcoming candidates from all regions to ensure diverse perspectives and balanced participation in shaping global water solutions.
