Join the JWPE Early Editorial Career Board (ECEB)
JWPE is pleased to announce a new call for the Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB) program to promote outstanding early career researchers and engage them in a path toward editorial activities and scientific contributions.
Eligibility
Early career researchers are defined as those who are within 10 years after receiving PhD, and currently hold an independent academic position or are senior researchers in industry/government research institutes. The term for ECEB members is two years, with possible renewal for a second term (if eligibility continues to be met). Exceptional ECEB members will be elevated to a JWPE Editorial Board member status. They may also be promoted and recommended for similar capacities to other Elsevier journals.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting reviews for at least 24 submissions to the journal annually
- Submitting at least two manuscripts as the lead author to the journal within the term (which will be processed like any other regular submissions)
- Serving as an ambassador of the journal and promote the journal via social media, conferences, and other channels
- Assisting with virtual special issues under the guidance and discretion of the journal editors
- Being encouraged to propose and prepare review and prospective articles for publication in JWPE
Selection criteria:
- Expertise in water engineering and alignment with JWPE editorial lines
- Academic excellence, previous engagement with JWPE and impact on the field
- Previous editorial and reviewer roles as well as engagement with JWPE community
- PhD awarded less than 10 years ago at the date of application closure, on the 18/12/2025

Qualified early career researchers are invited to submit their applications by completing the online form available here: application form . It should include: (i) a 1-page cover letter, followed by (ii) relevant information presented in Table 1, (iii) a 2 page maximum answer to the selection criteria above, (iv) and a list of up to 10 selected publications with clear highlights the impact and relevance to the field of water engineering.
Important: applications will be accepted between 01/11/2025 and 18/12/2025 for announcement by 31/01/2026 and an official start from 01/03/2026.
All applications will be reviewed by JWPE editors and the applicants will be informed about a decision by return email. Decisions taken by the JWPE board are final and no appeal process will be allowed. The selected ECEB members’ names will be posted on the webpage of the JWPE Editorial Board and advertised through social media.
