Description of WorkThis Hydrogeologist position located in the Division of Waste Management, Brownfields Redevelopment Section (BRS). The Hydrogeologist will provide technical project management on properties with recorded brownfields agreements and/or be responsible for all aspects of a new brownfield’s agreement production. This position will be responsible for working with owners of brownfields properties to maintain compliance with the requirements of completed Brownfields Agreements and assisting owners with safe redevelopment. In addition to providing technically sound project management, the hydrogeologist will conduct risk evaluations utilizing applicable DEQ protocols, contribute to the continued growth of the BRS, and effectively communicate with the Section’s stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
The hydrogeologist will provide project management for Brownfields Properties. This includes technical oversight, evaluating land use and environmental assessment, and conducting risk evaluations for the purposes of ensuring that prospective developers protect public health and the environment when redeveloping brownfield properties. The hydrogeologist may be responsible for preparing the legal documents related to a Notice of Brownfields Property ensuring compliance with existing Brownfields Land Use Restrictions.
The hydrogeologist will be responsible for risk management on Brownfield properties. Using factors such as chemical types, concentration levels and exposure routes (such as direct contact, surface water, groundwater, and air) the hydrogeologist will determine if sufficient data is available, then conduct risk assessments using DEQ established protocols and tools. Using those assessments and other factors, the hydrogeologist will evaluate what risk management is needed to safely redevelop Brownfields properties.
The hydrogeologist will evaluate vapor intrusion risk and mitigation measures. Primary activities include conducting risk evaluations from various site media to determine vapor intrusion risk, review vapor mitigation designs for completion in accordance with existing DEQ guidance and evaluate pre- and post-occupancy data to determine if vapor mitigation systems functioning as intended.
The hydrogeologist will present and communicate technical information to various stakeholders.

Minimum Education and Experience
